Now and Always

Jorge realized at a very early age that God had given him a very special gift. That precious gift was and is still today an impeccable singing voice. A gift that would not only bring joy to him but to all that has come to know him. Jorge has shown appreciation for his gift by continuing to share his voice with all his loyal fans and supporters.

He came from a very humble beginning… One of eleven brothers and sisters, Jorge came into this world on August 12, 1950 in the city of Ribeira Grande Azores, much to the joy of his parents Alfred & Helena Silva. It soon became apparent that like others in his family Jorge had a wonderful gift to share with the rest of the world. It was at the age of 13 that Jorge began sharing this gift with the world. At such tender age he began singing in local Theatres and Restaurants with his first band called (Rebeldes do Ritmo).

Trying to get more exposure, at the age of 17 he leaves San Miguel to another Island, (Terçeira). He joins several Bands (Mini boys, Flama combo and Barbaros performing all over the Island including every weekend at the American Base ( N.C.O club, Army club, Officers Club and the Portuguese Air Force).

In 1971,his long awaited dream comes true as he is honored with the Islands top vocalist award. In order to receive this award Jorge had to compete against all the top singers and bands from the Local Islands. Now looking to expand his horizons and explore his ultimate goal and dream, Jorge Silva immigrates to the land of opportunity (America), hopping and dreaming to make it to the top there also.

During the next 4 years, he performs in nightclub’s all over New England with a band called (OASIS). During that time he is discovered by Francisco Penha, one of the most prominent Portuguese Music Managers who is noted for his remarkable ability to recognize talent and promote it successfully.

In 1983, Mr. Penha joins Jorge’s career as his Manager at which point they travel to Lisbon, Portugal to Record and promote his first Album titled (Jorge Silva in Portugal). The album was an immediate success selling its first addition in one week.One of the songs in this album entitled Ribeira Grande my City, became a big hit in throughout the Islands.

In 1984, he is honored by his native birthplace. The Mayor of Ribeira Grande invites Jorge to participate and perform in the city inauguration.

Meanwhile back in the United States, the cities of …( Taunton, East Providence and Fall River), recognized Jorge for his humanitarian participation in a vast number of benefit programs in the Portuguese community, by presenting him with Keys to each of the above mentioned cities.

In 1985, he records his second album in Portugal, during his recording he is invited by EDISCO (a major recording company) to participate in a well aclaimed and recognized European music contestDuring this contest Jorge performed his song entitled Portugal meu Jardim (Portugal my Garden). In 1987, he records his third album with Henda records entitled É o Destino. (IT’S DESTINY). During that same year, he is invited by a composer from New York to record a single titled (Body to Body), a song used in the famous Brazilian Soap Opera Ti.Ti.Ti.

In 1988,Jorge is contacted by country music Manager (Danny Calisle). He is asked to participate and perform in a country music show hosted by Bill Anderson called (You Can be a Star). He endured two weeks of professional competition, and landed a spot in the finals where he was awarded a prestigious second place showing with a song entitled (You only love once in a lifetime).

In 1997, he records a C.D. entitled, Diga-me por amor de Deus (Tell me for the love of God). Again a success all over the Portuguese community in New England, Europe, Canadá and Azôres.

In 1999, Jorge is honored with the privilege to participate in one of the top ranked TV programs in Portugal from RTPI with show host Julio Izidro. Shortly there after he is approached to perform with top entertainers Herman Jose and Carlos Ribeiro at the Theatre Ritz in New Jersey USA.

For the past 36 years Jorge has shared with all his gifted talent and has rightly so attained a very high standard in the entertainment community. Only his warm and compassionate heart overshadows his talent. He is truly an inspiration to his fans and fellow entertainers.
